With the NHL season quickly winding down, especially now, every game is crucial. Crucial for the Avs meaning this game was the difference between 11th place and 7th place in their conference- enough to make or break the playoffs for them potentially. At first, the game wasn't looking to good for the Avs, with Buffalo scoring less than 2 minutes into the game, but the Avs came up big to stay with Buffalo (score wise) throughout the game, ultimately resulting in a tie most of the game. However, in the last period, Buffalo managed to score one to get ahead of the avs 3-4, forcing the Avs to have to pull goalie Semyon Varlmov with a little over a minute left in the game, in order to bring on an extra attacker. As time ticked away, Avs fans everywhere were wondering if it would work out, and in the last 10 seconds rookie Gabriel Landeskog carried the puck down the ice, making it look effortless as always, creating a rebound for Jamie McGinn to put away his second goal of the game- with only .7 seconds left in regulation. The game then went to overtime, which didn't settle things, so, a shootout occured. Varlamov was brilliant as always, stopping all 3 shots, while Peter Mueller scored the only goal necessary for the Avs, making for a HUGE win, and many smiling Avs.
The Western Conference is so tight right now, that obviously, only a few points can make a huge difference in the standing of a team, which is crucial with playoffs right around the corner. The Avs were a prime example of that... but right now, 7th place has never felt so good.
Kate I'm sorry about the aves, but they lost and i guess they can look forward to next season.
